Chinatown Art Walk Challenge

It’s been awhile since I have updated you here, there are a few reasons for this primarily things have been fairly ordinary around here (as ordinary as they can be here anyway).   We did a quick weekend trip to KL to the bird park which we awesome.  The best part was when a bird tried to eat Nathan….

Other than our trip to KL, we have been fairly close to home until December.  We had a BIG trip at Christmas which I will tell you about soon.  We are winding down our time here in Penang fairly rapidly.  We have a hugely busy 6 months ahead of us, which I am really glad about.  I am better here when I am busy.  I have found the last few months of not so busy makes me fairly restless and a bit melancholy. I have enjoyed our time here, but I would be a liar if I didn’t say I am looking forward to going home in August.

One of the hardest parts of living here is we left our entire support system back home.  When you have toddler and a move of epic proportions you realize very quickly how important that support system is. Luckily I have made a couple of really good friends over the last year and a half that are all in the same exact situation.  I truly do not know what I do without them.  We lean on each other when we are having a hard time, and to go have fun.  We are there for each other during those periods of melancholy because we are all going through the same thing.  It has been a lifesaver for me.

One of the things we try to do is get out into Georgetown and try different cafes and such while the kids are in school.  Just before Christmas we decided to take a morning and go have some breakfast and the go on a Georgetown art walk.  There are usually four of us, but one couldn’t make it :(, so three of us set out for Chinatown and this is what we found:

Here is the map we used courtesy of another expat blog.

There are 2 different kinds of street art that you can find around Georgetown; murals and cast iron scenes.  The cast iron scenes are all over town so we decided to just go for the murals which are in a more concentrated area in Chinatown.  I have posted some of these before, but we found some new ones that I have never seen before.  It was a really fun morning!

This is probably the most iconic of the Georgetown Street Art. It is also one of my most favorites. It is simply charming.

We happened upon this couple also doing an art walk several times.  I am pretty sure they were in Penang on their honeymoon.  They were so beautiful I had to include them!

This was such a fun morning!  We got to see some things around town that we hadn’t seen before.  We ended our day with a pot of tea and piece of cake at one of the many lovely cafes that you can find around Georgetown.  If you are visiting Georgetown, I highly recommend you put this one your list of activities. I would also recommend you do it in the morning, due to the heat but that is a topic for another day.
